LIBRARY
FFP has a resource rich library .
The Library has a large range of books, periodicals,magazines,
journals, newspapers and reports on various issues related
to conflict transformation, peacebuilding, strategic studies,
war, terrorism, conflict and human rights . It is constantly
being updated . A computerized databased has been installed
in the library to facilitate easier access to the materials.
The library has Internet and e-mail access for its users
. It has also started a process of acquiring all the materials
produced in Nepal concerning conflict, peace and human
rights .
INTRODUCTION
Friends for Peace (FFP), is an organization based on research
and resource centre dedicated to conflict transformation
and peace building. FFP was established in May 2004 by
a group of independent, respected individuals working
in peace and conflict transformation. FFP works with national
and international specialists and scholars on specific
issues of concern and contention in Nepal.
FFP’s mission is to enhance
a forum in which issues related to conflict in Nepal can
be researched, debated and understood, and more informed
debate and dialogue generated for a political settlement
in Nepal.
THE LIBRARY
Friends for Peace’s library brings together in one
convenient location all of the written materials vis;
books, periodicals, magazines, journals, newspapers and
report on various issues related to conflict transformation,
peace building, strategic studies, war, terrorism, conflict
and human rights.
CATALOGUING
All of the materials are sorted using the Dewey decimal
classification system – designed specifically for
managing collections of resources with a focus on conflict
transformation and peace building.
For a general search, the broad subject
categories, into which the resources are sorted on the
shelves, can be browsed by the user. For a more specific
search – by title, author, subject or keyword –
the CDS-ISIS database can be queried and a specific resource
located by its Dewey decimal call number.
ALSO AVAILABLE
An additional research tool, the internet and
email, is also available to visitors of the library.

Friends for Peace supports its dissemination of resources
on conflict transformation and peace building through
its website programme, hosting www.friendsforpeace.org.np
THE MATERIAL
The library collection consists of books, brochures, reports,
journals and newspaper with approximately equal numbers
of Nepali and English resources. The focus of the materials
is on conflict, peace and human rights issues –
in general, and as they relate to the in Nepal.
All of the materials in the library
are carefully selected for their relevance to conflict,
peace and human rights kept up-to-date, and systematically
sorted and catalogued in a fully searchable CDS-ISIS database
to ensure quick location of the right resources.
OPENING HOURS
The library is open to researchers, students, journalists
and the public, from Monday to Friday, 10am–1pm
and 2pm–4pm. The resources cannot be borrowed; however
a user-pay photocopy service is available.
