• FFP successfully organised a day long interaction on "Future Negotiation: Challenges and Opportunities" on 27 June 2004. Former Speaker and facilitator Mr. Damannath Dhungana, human rights leader and former facilitator Mr.Padma Ratna Tuladhar, former foreign minister and facilitator Mr.Shailendra Kumar Upadhya, former justice of the Supreme Court Laxman Prasad Aryal, human rights leader Dr. Mathura Prasad Shrestha, Editor of Mulyankan Weekly Mr. Shyam Shrestha and Director of FFP Dr. Bishnu Raj Upreti spoke at the programme.Former Chief Justice of the Supreme Court Bishwanath Upadhyaya presided.

 

• An interaction with the leaders of wide range of political parties was organized at FFP office on 30 June 2004.

 

• A consultative meeting was organised with Professor Nicholas Hayson, Chief Legal Adviser to Nelson Mondela, former president of South Africa on 29 June 2004. Chairperson of FFP Laxman Aryal, former facilitators and Director of FFP Dr Bishnu Raj Upreti participated.

 

• A sharing session was organized with Dr. Paikiasothi Saravanamuttu, Director, Centre for Policy Alternatives, Sri Lanka on 1 July 2004 on the Sri Lankan experience in conflict resolution and peace negotiation. The facilitators of previous peace negotiation, Mr. Laxman Aryal, Mr. Gauri Pradhan, Dr. Dwarika Nath Dhungel, Mr. Shyam Shrestha and a few others participated in the programme.

 

• A consultative meeting of the members of management and advisory board of FFP was organised with Mr. Dan Smith, Secretary General of International Alert on 27 July 2004.During the meeting a wide range of issues relating to collaboration between FFP and International Alert on conflict transformation and peace building were discussed.

 

• An interaction programme was organised at FFP office on 28 July 2004 with a view to share international experiences of conflict transformation and peace process with the Secretary General of International Alert Mr. Dan Smith. Representatives of major parliamentary political parties and the board members of FFP participated.

 

• An interaction meeting of religious personages, FFP board members and its research staff was organised at FFP office on August 2, 2004 to discuss the role of religious community in the resolution of conflict and the establishment of durable peace in the coutry.

 

• A team of former facilitators and other prominent personalities working in the field of conflict left for Africa and Mozambique on 9 August 2004. The purpose of the trip is to share experiences on peace negotiation and conflict transformation. The visiting team is composed of renowned people like Mr. Damannath Dhungana, former speaker of the House of representatives, Sailendra Kumar Upadhyaya, former facilitator and former minister for foreign affairs, Padma Ratna Tuladhar, human rights leader, Laxman Prasad Aryal, Chairperson of FFP, Himalaya Shamsher JB Rana, leader of civil society, Shobha Gautam, Chairperson of IHRCON, Shyam Shrestha, leader of civil society and Dr. Bishju Raj Upreti, Director of FFP .

 

• A Consultation was held with Specail Envoy of UN his exellency Samuel Tamrat on 7 August 2004. In this meeting representatives of major political parties, civil society leaders and business community personage and FFP board members and staffs were present.

 

• A national workshop was organised on 23 August 2004. Papers were presented on Water Resources Sharing and Conflict, India's Role in Peace Process and Open Border and Conflict. And Sharing experiences on trip to South Africa and Mozambique. Altogether 94 people attended the workshop.

 

National Workshop on "Discourses on Constituent Assembly and Regional Approach to Conflict Transformation in Nepal" was organized on 5 December 2004.

 

• A Consultation with Mr. Adam Barbolet, Senior Programme officer of International Alert was organized on 1 August 2004.

 

• An interaction between Dr Jehan Perera, Media Director of National Peace Council, Sri Lanka and FFP Board of Directors, Board of Advisers and FFP staff was organized on

 

An interaction on "Conflict Transformation in Nepal: National Issues and International Experiences" was organized on 29 July 2007.

 

An interaction programme was organized by Friends for Peace with S D Muni on 18 November 2004.

 

• The First Annual General assembly of FFP was 21 November 2004.

 

• An MOU was sign between IA an FFP on 1 November 2004.

 

 

• An interaction programme was organised in Hetauda among government and security officials, civil society leaders and other stakeholders of Makwanpur district on 1 July, 2004 on the role of civil society in local peace initiatives. Similarly, another interaction was also organised in Birgunj, Parsa district in which civil society leader, business community and NGO representatives shed light on local peace initiatives. Both the interactions were very interesting. The participants expressed their willingness to collaborate with FFP in future on conflict transformation and peace building. Director of FFP Dr. Bishnu Raj Upreti participated in both the discussions.

 

• An interaction programme was organised in Dhankuta at the initiative of FFP field researchers on 1 July 2004. A lively discussion was organised on local peace initiatives among Chief District Officer, police officials, journalists, village development committee secretaries, victims of conflict and pro- Maoist intellectuals.

 

• An interaction was also organised in Inaruwa, headquarters of Sunsari district on 9 June 2004 at the initiative of FFP field researchers. At the interaction the Chief District Officer of Sunsari district, security officials, representatives of NGOs, representatives of Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce, journalists and other stakeholders participated.

 

• An experience sharing interaction programme was organised among the field researchers and staff members of FFP at its office on 21 July 2004. Chairperson of FFP Laxman Prasad Aryal presided.

 

• A consultation meeting of various stakeholders such as women, indigenous people, Dalits and disabled persons was organised on 23 July 2004 to discuss various issues of their concern in the context of ongoing conflict

• A workshop was organized on 30 July 2004 in which papers were presented on Security Sector Reform, Comparative Peace Process and Small Arms and light Weapons. There were 90 participants in the workshop.
